Case Study on Verification-Witness Validators: Where We Are and Where We Go

Abstract Software-verification tools sometimes produce incorrect answers, which can be a false alarm or wrong claim of correctness. To increase the reliability verification results, many verifiers now accompany their answers by witnesses in an interoperable standard format. There exist witness validators that examine and potentially confirm results. This case study analyzes quality existing for C programs using produced wide variety 40 participated SV-COMP 2022. In particular, we show are invalid. remedy this situation, suggest some advances validation, including regular comparative evaluation validators. Our suggestions were recently adopted community next edition competition.
